We always get used to seeing the appearance of things, with little knowledge about what the truth is behind it. So we always get confused by the appearance as well as the emotional pleasure and suffering generated by it. The reason that those problems cannot be solved is because we entangle problems with our worry.

But in fact we can solve a problem without causing any worry if we have attained the truth. Just like people may get confused when he encounters certain difficult words in reading and may be puzzled by what these words really mean. Thus annoyance may arise in his heart when he gets confused and entangled. And then he may try to find the answer with that annoyed heart. Actually, We can solve a problem without causing any annoyance as follows. Tell ourselves we could put aside those ”incomprehension” for a moment, or maybe we could ask help from other people. But it does not mean we should add another feeling of annoyance to this problem. This is no more than a little case, but since we have to face it frequently in our lives, as time goes by, the little case will gradually accumulate until we get overburdened with it.

So how should we attain the truth of the matter? Let’s analyze an example: a horse, a dog, a fly and a man may have different impressions when they see the identical thing. Anything in a horse’s eyes will be enlarged, so a horse may get scared easily. Anything in a dog’s eyes become short and flat, that is why a dog always tries to bite things around it. In a fly’s eyes, one thing may have multiple images, so a fly is inclined to sting something. Comparatively speaking, the things in a man’s eyes is not so partial. Thus we know the identical thing may have different appearances from different angles of life. Appearance varies with its different conditions.

All things share the same essence though they are manifested differently according to different causes and conditions. The differences in manifestation may come from different feelings, angles, educations and genders, etc. Thus we come to realize little by little that the things we encounter in our lives is the appearance, not the truth.

There is no essence in the truth; that is to say there is nothing fixed, the changing nature itself is the essence, the truth. Since we have realized the truth of things, we will not solidify or be attached to the appearance of things. Anything we see is temporary, and is what we select from a certain angle, thus we won’t be limited by the appearance of things. Our mind will become open and broad; meanwhile, we could be helpful in enlightening the understanding of truth.

Different mindset will lead to incredibly different result of the same thing. For, example, one may like raining while another may dislike it. That is because they attach “like” or “dislike” in their heart, which has nothing to do with raining. Raining itself is neither good nor bad. So raining is the appearance and its essence is neither good or bad, nor enjoyable or painful. We should learn to influence the appearance with the force of our heart instead of being influenced by it. Thus we won’t be puzzled by the appearance any more, and our heart is freed and can be the owner and adjust anything accordingly.

“So when we want to solve a problem we should solve it from its root, from mindset. We should ask ourselves what kind of mind we have attached to a certain matter. Is it a mind of respect and care or a mind of hurt and slander. Thus it will be easy to know whether we are annoyed or not when we try to solve a certain problem of a matter.”

We fail to see the truth even though it is around us, just like we can not see our own eyes even when we are using them now. The truth is formless, but its force is manifested all the time. Wind is a good example. Usually we cannot see it, but we may feel its power and its image through the swinging of trees and the undulating of water. However, these are not wind but the external manifestation of wind.

The truth of wind is formless. We cannot see it, but it is everywhere and truly existed in the natural world. Different causes and conditions may generate different kinds of force. Just like when wind comes across water, it may cause waves, tsunami or tornado according to the level of power. These phenomena and forces are not truth, and truth is just like the nature of wind. We may find it changeable, formless and with no essence. So we are always blinded by the external phase of matter and believe what we see, hear or what happens are real, and fail to see the truth that it is our minds who play all the roles.

The appearances of things vary wildly. But right behind these different appearances is the same nature and root. By relying upon our nature, coming back to our deepest root, truly and completely understanding our heart, we will find those endlessly different superficial problems and troubles could be solved completely.
